Akao, President on the Renesas Technology side, became Representative Director and President of the merged company in April 2010. From the former NEC Electronics side, Masaki Kato, who joined NEC in 1974, came in as Director and Managing Executive Officer and became Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2011. Masahiro Yamamura, formerly head of Hitachi's semiconductor operations, also joined the board in June 2011.

In November 2010 the company acquired Nokia's wireless modem business, and in December transferred the mobile multimedia business, including it, to Renesas Mobile through an absorption-type split. It sold the front-end line of the Roseville plant to Telefunken in May 2011, the power amplifier business to Murata Manufacturing in March 2012, and the front-end line of the Tsugaru plant to Fuji Electric in July. Consolidated net sales fell from ¥1,137.9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2011 to ¥785.8 billion in the FY ended March 2013, with a net loss of ¥167.6 billion that year, leading to the acceptance of a ¥150.0 billion investment from the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan and major customers.
