Background
He joined the company in April 1973, became a Director in June 2002, Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2004 and Director and Senior Executive Officer in June 2007. He was the fourth consecutive career-insider president, reaching the post 38 years after joining. In June 2014 he became President and CEO, taking on both day-to-day operations and final decision-making.

In June 2011 he succeeded Yukiyoshi Okano as Representative Director, President and COO, while Noriyuki Inoue remained as Representative Director, Chairman and CEO. In the fiscal year ended March 2011, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,160.3 billion and operating income ¥75.5 billion, just after recovering from net sales of ¥1,023.9 billion in FY ended March 2010, when the financial crisis had cut results. His tenure began with a division of labor in which the president handled operations and the Chairman and CEO long-term decisions.
Initiatives
In November 2012 the company acquired Goodman Global Group, the leader in U.S. residential air conditioning with a share of about 25%, for about ¥295.0 billion. Residential units were added to the commercial North American base built through the 2006 OYL acquisition. In the same month it launched room air conditioners using the new refrigerant R32 in Japan. In the fiscal year ended March 2016, consolidated net sales exceeded ¥2 trillion for the first time. In June 2024 he handed the presidency to Naofumi Takenaka and became Chairman and CEO.
