Background

He joined Nippon Steel Corporation in April 1979. He became an Executive Officer in April 2009, Managing Executive Officer in April 2013, Executive Vice President in April 2016, and Representative Director and Executive Vice President that June. It took him 30 years to become an Executive Officer, and he is a career employee who never worked at another company. During the 40 years from joining to becoming President, Nippon Steel merged with Sumitomo Metal Industries to form Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal, which was renamed Nippon Steel in April 2019.
