He joined The Mitsubishi Bank in April 1977, becoming Managing Executive Officer in May 2007 and Senior Managing Executive Officer and Chief Executive for the Americas in May 2011. He became Representative Director and Deputy President of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group in June 2012, and Representative Director, President and CEO of Japan Investment Corporation in September 2018. He moved to Nippon Paint in March 2019, joining first as Representative Director and Chairman. He was an outsider from banking and investment with no career in the paint business.
