Background
A career employee, he joined Dentsu in April 1973. He became Managing Executive Officer in June 2002, Managing Director in June 2006 and Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2009. His appointment as President in April 2011 came in his 38th year with the company, nine years after he became an Executive Officer.
Selection
In April 2011 he became Representative Director, President and Executive Officer, succeeding Tatsuyoshi Takashima. In the fiscal year ended March 2011, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥1,833.4 billion, operating income ¥50.9 billion and net income ¥21.6 billion, the second straight year in the black after a net loss of ¥20.5 billion in FY ended March 2009. The top shareholders were Kyodo News at 7.37% and Jiji Press at 7.10%, with news organizations holding part of the capital.
Initiatives
In March 2013 he acquired Britain's Aegis Group, expanding the overseas business further. Consolidated net sales grew from ¥1,941.2 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2013 to ¥2,309.4 billion in FY ended March 2014. In 2015 the company changed its fiscal year-end from March to December. In December 2016 he stepped down as President after five years and eight months.
