Background
He joined Ube Industries in April 1977 and made his career in the machinery business. He became an Executive Officer of the subsidiary Ube Machinery in June 2001 and its Representative Director and President in June 2003, serving seven years before moving to Chairman in June 2010. At the parent company he became Managing Executive Officer in April 2007, Senior Managing Executive Officer in April 2010 and Representative Director in June 2013.

In April 2015 he became Representative Director, President and Group CEO, succeeding Michio Takeshita. The promotion came 38 years after he joined in 1977 and two years after he became a Representative Director. In the fiscal year ended March 2015, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥641.7 billion, operating income ¥24.1 billion and net income ¥14.6 billion, with operating income flat from ¥24.4 billion the year before. The change put a machinery executive who had spent seven years as president of a subsidiary at the top of the parent company.

In April 2019 he stepped down as President and moved to Representative Director and Chairman.
