Background
He founded Nextage in December 1998 and became Representative Director and President at the founding. After becoming Representative Director and Chairman in February 2022, he returned to the presidency as Representative Director, Chairman and President in September 2023. He has led the company for its 27 years except for the year and seven months he was Chairman. Among major shareholders at the end of the FY ended November 2025, he himself ranked seventh with 2.18%, and the largest shareholder, SMN Co., held 35.08%.
Selection
As the first president, he was not appointed through promotion. In February 2022 he handed the presidency to Koji Hamawaki and became Chairman, but a year and seven months later, in September 2023, returned as Representative Director, Chairman and President. In the FY ended November 2023, the year he returned, consolidated operating income was ¥16.1 billion, down from ¥19.4 billion the year before. Net income had also fallen from ¥13.9 billion to ¥11.6 billion.
Initiatives
The company listed on the TSE Mothers market in 2013 and moved up to the TSE First Section the following year, 2014. From 2015 it pushed the conversion to large one-stop stores, and consolidated net sales grew from ¥63.1 billion in the FY ended November 2015 to ¥418.1 billion in the FY ended November 2022, and operating income from ¥1.3 billion to ¥19.4 billion. After returning as President in September 2023 he abolished all sales incentives, and in the FY ended November 2025 consolidated net sales were ¥652.1 billion and operating income ¥19.6 billion.
