Background

He became Representative Director and President of Daiichi Co., Ltd. (now EDION) in April 1992. In March 2002 he became Representative Director and Chairman of the holding company EDION, established through a share transfer by DeoDeo and Eiden, and added the presidency in July 2003. After stepping down as president in June 2024 he remains Representative Director, Chairman, Executive Officer and CEO. Among major shareholders in the FY ended March 2026 are Daiichi Co., Ltd. with 3.26% and Nobutaka Kubo personally with 2.15%.

Selection

The holding company EDION was launched in March 2002 through a share transfer by DeoDeo and Eiden and listed on the First Sections of three exchanges. Kubo, who had been Representative Director and President of Daiichi Co., Ltd. for ten years from 1992, was the head of an operating company and moved to Representative Director and Chairman of EDION upon the integration. He became president in July 2003, one year and four months after the launch, and served as the first president for about 21 years until June 2024.

Initiatives

In 2005 the company made Midori Denka, second in the Kansai region, a wholly owned subsidiary through a share exchange, forming the second-largest alliance nationwide. Between 2009 and 2010 it consolidated its operating companies into two, east and west, and then absorbed them into the holding company, moving from a pure holding company to a single operating structure. Consolidated net sales stayed around ¥700 billion, from ¥759.0 billion in the FY ended March 2012 to ¥721.1 billion in the FY ended March 2024, and the company posted a net loss of ¥2.6 billion in the FY ended March 2013.
