Background
He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation in 1983 and remained with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone until 2020. He rose to Representative Director and Executive Vice President of NTT in June 2018 and moved to NTT DOCOMO as Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2020. He became President that December, having been at DOCOMO for six months. He was in effect an outside President sent from the holding company's management.
Selection
In December 2020 he succeeded Kazuhiro Yoshizawa as President. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2020, operating profit was ¥854.6 billion, down ¥159.0 billion from ¥1,013.6 billion the previous year. At the same time, parent Nippon Telegraph and Telephone made DOCOMO a wholly owned subsidiary through a tender offer, and its listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was withdrawn. In parallel with this parent-led reorganization, the appointment installed the holding company's Executive Vice President as President.
Initiatives
In December 2020, the month he took office, the company was delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange after being made a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone. It was thereafter run as an unlisted operating company, and in June 2024 he stepped down as President and became a senior adviser.
