Background

He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation in April 1967. He became a Director and head of the Personnel Department in June 1996, a Director and head of the Personnel and Labor Relations Department the following month, and Managing Director in June 1998, a career long spent in labor relations and personnel. In January 1999 he joined preparations for the split as deputy head of the East company transition headquarters, becoming Representative Director and Executive Vice President of NTT East in July that year and its President in June 2002. He returned to NTT in June 2005 as Representative Director and Executive Vice President, heading the Medium-Term Management Strategy Promotion Office.

Education: University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law (1967)

Selection

In June 2007 he succeeded Norio Wada as President, with Wada moving to Chairman that same month. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2007, consolidated revenue was ¥10,760.5 billion and operating profit ¥1,107.0 billion, almost flat from revenue of ¥10,741.1 billion the previous year. Miura had headed the Medium-Term Management Strategy Promotion Office from June 2005 and had served five years as President of the regional company NTT East.

Initiatives

In May 2010 listed subsidiary NTT DATA launched a tender offer of about ¥286.0 billion for South Africa's Dimension Data. Overseas expansion was led not by the parent but by a listed subsidiary. At the end of March 2010 the largest shareholder was the Minister of Finance, holding 33.71%. The division of roles appears to have been that the holding company held the capital while the operating companies decided individual acquisitions.
