Background

He joined Tokyo Broadcasting System in April 1963, became head of the Television Sales Bureau in December 1991 and a Director and head of that bureau in June 1993. He became a Director and head of the Television Programming Bureau in May 1995, Managing Director in June 1996, Senior Managing Director in June 1997 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2001. The bureaus he oversaw around the time he joined the board were sales and programming; it took him 30 years from joining to reach the board and 39 years to the presidency.

In June 2002 he was promoted from Representative Director and Executive Vice President to Representative Director and President. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2002, consolidated revenue was ¥291.3 billion and ordinary profit ¥29.3 billion. His successor Keizo Zaitsu took 31 years from joining in 1968 to reach the board, and Managing Director Yukio Kinugasa 33 years from joining in 1973, so Inoue's 30 years falls within the same range.

Initiatives

In October 2004 the company spun off its program production division to launch TBS Television Inc., and he also served as its Representative Director and President. Akasaka Sacas opened in 2008. In April 2009 the company became a certified broadcasting holding company, and he became Representative Director and Chairman that year. Consolidated revenue grew from ¥291.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2002 to ¥372.3 billion in the FY ended March 2009, but net income fell from ¥19.0 billion the previous year to ¥1.7 billion.
