Background

He joined TBS in April 1982 and became head of the Accounting Bureau of TBS Television in June 2009. He moved to head of the Corporate Planning Office in November 2010 and head of the Programming Bureau in April 2012, and became an Executive Officer of TBS Television in April 2013. He became a Director of TBS Television in March 2015, a Director of TBS in June that year, Managing Director in April 2016 and Senior Managing Director in June 2017. His career ran successively through administration, in accounting and corporate planning, and program scheduling.

In June 2018 he succeeded Shinji Takeda as Representative Director and President, three years after joining the TBS board and one year after becoming Senior Managing Director. In the year before his appointment, the fiscal year ended March 2018, revenue was ¥362.0 billion and operating profit ¥18.8 billion; revenue grew from ¥355.4 billion the previous year, while operating profit fell from ¥19.9 billion.

Consolidated revenue fell from ¥362.0 billion in the year before his appointment to ¥325.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2021, and operating profit shrank from ¥18.8 billion to ¥10.8 billion. Results then recovered, and in the FY ended March 2024, his final year, revenue was ¥394.3 billion and net income ¥38.1 billion, both above the year before his appointment. Operating profit, at ¥15.2 billion, fell short of the ¥18.8 billion of that year.
