Background

He joined the company in 1967 and in 1995 led the liner division as General Manager of the First Liner Department. He moved to Director and General Manager of Corporate Planning in 1996, then became Managing Director in 1998, Senior Managing Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in 2000 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in 2003. Having handled liner operations and company-wide planning in turn, he became President 37 years after joining.

In June 2004 he became Representative Director, President and Executive Officer, succeeding Kunio Suzuki. In the previous fiscal year, ended March 2004, consolidated revenue was ¥997.3 billion and ordinary profit ¥90.6 billion, ordinary profit having grown 2.7 times from ¥33.4 billion the year before. The change came in the fifth year after the April 1999 merger with Navix Line, which gave the company its current name.

Initiatives

In October 2004 the company made Daibiru Corporation a subsidiary through a tender offer, and in March 2006 did the same with Utoku Express. Consolidated revenue doubled from ¥997.3 billion in the year before he took office to ¥1,945.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2008, with ordinary profit of ¥302.2 billion and net income of ¥190.3 billion. In the fiscal year ended March 2010 revenue fell to ¥1,348.0 billion and ordinary profit to ¥24.2 billion.
