Background
He is a career employee who joined Odakyu Electric Railway in April 1988. He became an Executive Officer in June 2017, a Director in June 2021 and Managing Director in April 2022, taking 36 years from joining to become President. Before joining the board, from April 2020 to June 2021, he served as President of the group company Odakyu Resorts, overseeing the tourism business in Hakone.
Selection
He became President in April 2024, succeeding Koji Hoshino. In the fiscal year ended March 2024, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue was ¥409.8 billion and operating income ¥50.8 billion, eight times the ¥6.2 billion of operating income in the pandemic-hit fiscal year ended March 2022, two years earlier. He was promoted two years after becoming Managing Director. The appointment appears to have handed management, after transport demand had returned, to a generation that had seen the frontline in Hakone.
Initiatives
In his first year, the fiscal year ended March 2025, consolidated revenue was ¥422.7 billion and operating income ¥51.4 billion, both above the previous year's ¥409.8 billion and ¥50.8 billion. Net income fell from ¥81.5 billion to ¥51.9 billion. The workforce fell from 13,272 in the fiscal year ended March 2022 to 11,517 in the fiscal year ended March 2025.
