Background
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1913, he graduated from the commerce course of the Nihon University vocational school in March 1935 and joined Keihin Electric Railway in July 1941. At Keikyu he became a Director and General Manager of the Motor Vehicle Department in November 1961, Managing Director in November 1965, Senior Managing Director in November 1969 and Executive Vice President in May 1975. In February 1970 he also became Senior Managing Director of Hotel Pacific Tokyo. His career ran through the non-railway divisions.
Selection
In June 1981 he became President, succeeding Tsunenori Katagiri, who moved to Chairman. The promotion came 20 years after joining the board and six years after becoming Executive Vice President. In the fiscal year ended March 1981, the year before he took office, revenue was ¥73.9 billion against ordinary profit of ¥0.9 billion, with net income of ¥1.6 billion. The President changed right after a year in which revenue grew while ordinary profit fell below ¥1 billion.
Initiatives
Revenue, ¥73.9 billion in the year before he took office, reached ¥108.5 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1985. Ordinary profit, which had fallen to ¥0.9 billion, recovered to ¥4.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1985, and net income also rose from ¥1.6 billion to ¥2.1 billion. In the four years after he took office, revenue grew 1.5 times and ordinary profit 4.7 times. The date he stepped down as President has not been confirmed, because the coverage of the Japan Company Directory ends with its 1981 edition.
