Background
He joined NYK Line in April 1976 and spent his first 11 years at a shipping company. He moved into securities when he joined Matsui Securities in April 1987. One year and eight months later, in December 1988, he became a Director, and in October 1990 Managing Director and head of Sales, entrusted with the sales division three and a half years after joining. Rather than a specialist who had moved among securities firms, he was a mid-career hire from a different industry who rose quickly to the board.
Selection
In June 1995 he became Representative Director and President, promoted after four years and eight months as Managing Director and head of Sales, only eight years after joining mid-career in April 1987. He would go on to serve as President for about 25 years, until stepping down in June 2020.
Initiatives
Consolidated operating revenue grew 4.5-fold from ¥12.8 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2002 to ¥57.1 billion in the FY ended March 2006. It then declined steadily, shrinking to ¥17.7 billion in the FY ended March 2012. On a non-consolidated basis, revenue recovered from ¥20.8 billion in the FY ended March 2013 to ¥39.9 billion in the FY ended March 2014, and the FY ended March 2020, his final year, closed with operating revenue of ¥24.2 billion and ordinary profit of ¥9.0 billion.
