Background

He joined MOS Food Services in June 1988, became Executive Officer and head of the Sales Planning Division in March 2005, and Executive Officer and head of the Development Division in February 2010. He joined the board as Director, Executive Officer and head of the Development Division in June 2010, and from November 2011 served in turn as head of development and head of sales for the domestic MOS Burger business. He became Managing Director and Executive Officer for business operations in April 2014, and in June 2015 took charge of the Corporate Planning Office, the Brand Strategy Office and the Development Division.

Selection

In June 2016 he succeeded Atsushi Sakurada as Representative Director and President. His predecessor had been President for 17 and a half years from December 1998, also serving as Chairman from April 2014. The appointment came in his 28th year at the company and two years after he became Managing Director. In the fiscal year ended March 2016, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥71.1 billion, operating profit ¥3.8 billion and net income ¥2.3 billion, with operating profit up from ¥1.6 billion the year before.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2019, his third year, consolidated net sales were ¥66.3 billion, operating profit ¥0.5 billion and a net loss of ¥0.9 billion, down from operating profit of ¥3.7 billion and net income of ¥2.4 billion the year before. In the FY ended March 2023, too, operating profit was about zero on sales of ¥85.1 billion, with a net loss of ¥0.3 billion. Operating profit recovered to ¥4.2 billion in the FY ended March 2024, and in the FY ended March 2026 net sales were ¥102.8 billion, operating profit ¥6.6 billion and net income ¥4.6 billion.
