Background
He became a Director of Gulliver International in July 1995, Managing Director in March 1999 and Senior Managing Director in February 2001. Among the major shareholders for the fiscal year ended February 2006, he held 7.91% of the outstanding shares as an individual, the same as founding President Kenichi Hatori. The largest shareholder was Forward with 26.19%, a company Takao Hatori has represented since its founding in January 1996.
Selection
In June 2008 he succeeded Kenichi Hatori as Representative Director and President. In the same month Senior Managing Director Takao Hatori also became Representative Director and President, moving to a structure with two presidents side by side. In the fiscal year ended February 2008, just before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥190.6 billion and operating income ¥8.7 billion, but the company posted a net loss of ¥2.8 billion. In the following FY ended February 2009, net sales fell further to ¥163.7 billion, with a net loss of ¥6.5 billion.
Initiatives
In 2015 the company acquired a multi-brand new car dealer in Australia and began selling new cars overseas. In July 2016 it changed its name from Gulliver International to IDOM, broadening its business beyond specializing in buying used cars. Consolidated net sales went from ¥155.7 billion in the fiscal year ended February 2015, before the acquisition, to ¥361.7 billion in the FY ended February 2020 and ¥562.8 billion in the FY ended February 2026.
