Background
He became a Director of Gulliver International in July 1995, Managing Director in March 1999 and Senior Managing Director in May 2006. In January 1996 he established Forward and became its Representative Director, a post he still holds. Forward was the largest shareholder, holding 26.19% of the outstanding shares in both the fiscal years ended February 2006 and February 2010, but his own name does not appear among the top 10 shareholders.
Selection
In June 2008 he succeeded Kenichi Hatori as Representative Director and President. In the same month Yusuke Hatori also went from Senior Managing Director to Representative Director and President, creating a structure with two presidents side by side. He was promoted two years after becoming Senior Managing Director, a shorter time than Yusuke, who had been Senior Managing Director for seven years. In the fiscal year ended February 2008, just before he took office, the company posted a net loss of ¥2.8 billion.
Initiatives
The two-president structure lasted 18 years, from when he took office until 2026. Over that time, consolidated net sales grew from ¥190.6 billion in the fiscal year ended February 2008, just before he took office, to ¥562.8 billion in the FY ended February 2026, and operating income from ¥8.7 billion to ¥20.2 billion. Forward, which he has represented since its founding, still held 26.19% in the FY ended February 2010, and its position as largest shareholder has not changed since the listing.
