Background

He joined Hatori Jidosha Kogyo in April 1959, and in October 1976 established Tokyo My Car Hanbai and became its Representative Director and President. After converting it into a joint-stock company in April 1988, he established Gulliver International in October 1994, 35 years after first joining a company, and became its Representative Director and President. In the officer list for the fiscal year ended February 2007, Kenichi Hatori held 323 thousand shares, while Senior Managing Directors Takao Hatori and Yusuke Hatori in the same table held 846 thousand each.

Selection

Gulliver International was founded by Kenichi Hatori in October 1994 and had no previous president. Takao Hatori and Yusuke Hatori became Directors in July 1995, and in May 1996 Ikuo Murata, formerly of Venture Link, and Yukihiro Yoshida, founder of Mac Projects, joined the board. The four Senior Managing Directors of the fiscal year ended February 2007 had all joined the board between July 1995 and May 1996, so the management team was set within two years of the founding.

Initiatives

Built up by specializing in buying used cars, consolidated net sales grew 2.2 times in six years, from ¥84.9 billion in the fiscal year ended February 2002 to ¥190.6 billion in the FY ended February 2008, and ordinary income rose from ¥4.2 billion to ¥8.7 billion. In the FY ended February 2008, his final year, however, the company posted a net loss of ¥2.8 billion against ordinary income of ¥8.7 billion. Kenichi Hatori served as Representative Director and President for 13 years and seven months, from the founding in October 1994 to May 2008, and was succeeded by Senior Managing Director Takao Hatori.
