Background

In February 1993 he joined Just Co., later renamed Don Quijote, and became Director and head of the Second Sales Division in September 1995. He served as General Manager of the Systems Department in 2003 and head of the Business Development Division in 2004, and resigned from the board in April 2007. He became Representative Director and President of subsidiary Realit in 2005 and of Japan Commercial Establishment in April 2009, returning to the board as Director and CIO in September 2009. He became Executive Vice President and COO in April 2013.

Selection

In July 2014 he succeeded Takao Yasuda as Representative Director, President and COO. He had become Representative Director, Executive Vice President and COO in November 2013 and Representative Director and President of the operating company Don Quijote in December that year, so the promotion made him president of both the holding company and the operating company. In the fiscal year ended June 2014, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥612.4 billion and operating income ¥34.3 billion. In July 2015 his title changed from COO to CEO.

Initiatives

In August 2017 he concluded a capital and business alliance with FamilyMart UNY Holdings, and in November that year made UNY an equity-method affiliate. In January 2019 the company acquired all shares of UNY and made it a subsidiary, bringing the group to 600 stores. In February 2019 it changed its name to Pan Pacific International Holdings. Consolidated net sales for the fiscal year ended June 2019, the year he stepped down, were ¥1,328.9 billion, 2.2 times the year before he took office.
