Background
He graduated from Tokyo Imperial University's Faculty of Engineering in March 1924 and joined Nakajima Aircraft, becoming a Director and head of its Koizumi Works in April 1940. He was an engineer who ran aircraft mass production on the shop floor. After the postwar breakup, when Fuji Heavy Industries was launched in July 1953 with joint investment from five former Nakajima companies, he joined as Senior Managing Director. He became President in August 1956. The managing directors and directors of 1960 also included Nakajima Aircraft alumni, and the engineers of the former aircraft maker made up the management team largely intact.
Selection
In April 1955 Fuji Heavy Industries absorbed its five investor companies, bringing the divided former Nakajima plants and workforce together into one company. Takao Yoshida became President the following year, having been Senior Managing Director since the founding. With his background running mass production as head of Nakajima Aircraft's Koizumi Works, he appears to have been entrusted with pulling manufacturing together right after the integration.
Initiatives
In October 1960 he opened the Gunma Manufacturing Division, establishing a base for automobile mass production. Net sales grew from ¥8.7 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1957 to ¥30.9 billion in the FY ended March 1963, and ordinary income from ¥316 million to ¥1,069 million. Outside the company, he also served as Chairman of Iwatsu Electric from 1958, auditor of Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing from 1959 and President of Yuso Kiki Kogyo from 1961. In May 1963 he handed the presidency to Nobuo Yokota and stepped back to Director.
