Background
He joined Toyota Motor in April 1983, became a Managing Officer in April 2013 and a Senior Managing Officer in January 2018. From June 2015 he also served as President of Advics. He moved to Hino Motors as an advisor in February 2021 and became President four months later, in June. Like his predecessor Yoshio Shimo, he was a president sent in by Toyota, which held a majority of the shares.
Selection
In June 2021 he succeeded Yoshio Shimo as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2021, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥1,498.4 billion, operating income ¥12.2 billion and the net loss ¥7.4 billion, with operating income having shrunk to one-seventh of the ¥86.7 billion of two years earlier. The year after he took office, engine certification fraud came to light.
Initiatives
At a press conference in August 2022 he admitted the certification fraud, set integrity, contribution and empathy as the values to be carried on, and made compliance the explicit top priority. Net results ran in the red year after year, starting with a ¥84.7 billion loss in the fiscal year ended March 2022, followed by ¥117.6 billion in the FY ended March 2023 and ¥217.7 billion in the FY ended March 2025. At Archion, to be formed through the integration with Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus, Ogiso also serves as CTO.
