Background
A career employee who joined in April 1987, he spent 35 years in the Mitsui E&S group. He became an Executive Officer of Mitsui E&S Machinery in April 2018 and its Representative Director and President the following April. He also joined the parent's board in June 2019 and became Director and CCO in June 2021. From March 2021 he also served as a director of MODEC. He rose to President of the parent with experience leading the machinery subsidiary.

In April 2022 he succeeded Ryoichi Oka as Representative Director, President and CEO. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the year before, the company posted an operating loss of ¥10.0 billion and a net loss of ¥21.8 billion on consolidated sales of ¥579.4 billion, its third straight year of operating losses since FY ended March 2020. The change handed him the withdrawal from shipbuilding decided by his predecessor midway through, with the man who had led the machinery business taking over.
Initiatives
He completed the withdrawal from the shipbuilding business, narrowing the business down to marine engines and port cranes. Consolidated sales halved from ¥579.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2022 to ¥262.3 billion in FY ended March 2023, but that year the company posted operating income of ¥9.4 billion, returning to profit for the first time in three years. Operating income kept rising thereafter—¥19.6 billion in FY ended March 2024, ¥23.1 billion in FY ended March 2025 and ¥37.6 billion in FY ended March 2026—restoring profitability at a smaller scale.
