He joined Seiko Epson in April 1988. He became Executive Officer in June 2017, Director and Executive Officer in June 2018 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2019, rising to President less than three years after joining the executive ranks. A career employee, he had no ownership stake behind him. Before he took office, in the fiscal year ended March 2015, the largest shareholder was Sanko Kigyo with 5.00%, and only one shareholder held more than 5%.

In April 2020 he succeeded Minoru Usui, who had served about 12 years, as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, the year before he took office, net sales were ¥1,043.6 billion and operating income ¥39.5 billion, with operating income down more than 40% from ¥71.4 billion the previous year. Net income also fell from ¥53.7 billion to ¥7.7 billion. He was promoted two years after joining the board.
Initiatives
In December 2024 the company acquired all interests in Fiery, LLC, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. In April 2022 it split each share of common stock into two, became a company with an audit and supervisory committee and moved to the Prime Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Net sales grew from ¥1,043.6 billion in the year before he took office to ¥1,330.3 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2023, and in the FY ended March 2025, his final year, were ¥1,362.9 billion with operating income of ¥75.1 billion. Employees fell from 79,944 in the FY ended March 2021 to 74,464 in the FY ended March 2024.
