Background
He graduated from the electrical department of Tokyo Higher Technical School in 1928 and joined the old Oki Electric, becoming a Director in 1947, Managing Director in 1956 and Senior Managing Director in 1963. The 1964 board list shows only one Senior Managing Director, whose responsibility was sales. An engineer from an electrical program, in other words, handled sales as a director. In January 1966 he became President.
Selection
In January 1966 he succeeded Suteji Kobe, who had been President for over 16 years. In the fiscal year ended March 1965, the year before he took office, non-consolidated net income was ¥0.9 billion, half the ¥1.7 billion of the FY ended March 1963. In 1965 the company cut its dividend from 13% to 10%. The change appears to have replaced bank-bred Presidents, who had led the company for 16 years since the second company's launch, with a director raised inside the company.
Initiatives
In February 1966 he created a wired communications division and a data processing division, and in April 1967 absorbed Oki Business Machine Sales, increasing capital to ¥6.2 billion. In December 1967 the first-generation online system using the OKISAVER online deposit terminal went live at Fuji Bank, and in September 1971 the company delivered online automated cash dispensers to the same bank. In August 1972 it established Oki Electric Overseas in the US. Non-consolidated net sales grew from ¥31.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1966 to ¥85.4 billion in the FY ended March 1972.
