Background
He joined Oki Electric Industry in April 1981. He worked in development of automated machines, becoming manager of the Second Hardware Development Department of the Systems Equipment Division in 2001 and head of Systems Equipment Development in 2005. He became head of the Automated Machine Division in 2010 and Executive Officer and head of the Systems Equipment Business Group in April 2011, then Senior Executive Officer in 2012 and Director and Senior Executive Officer in June 2014. Just before becoming President he was chief technology officer as well as chief compliance officer and head of corporate planning.
Selection
In April 2016 he succeeded Hideichi Kawasaki as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer. In the fiscal year ended March 2016, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥490.3 billion and operating income ¥18.6 billion, down ¥49.9 billion and ¥13.8 billion from ¥540.2 billion and ¥32.4 billion the previous year. Though an engineer from development, he had served as head of corporate planning right before taking office. The appointment appears to have rested on experience in both technology and management.
Initiatives
In April 2022 he moved to Representative Director, Chairman and Executive Officer, keeping the CEO role while handing only the presidency to Takahiro Mori. Mori took over as CEO a year later, in April 2023. Over his six years consolidated net sales shrank from ¥490.3 billion to ¥352.1 billion and operating income from ¥18.6 billion to ¥5.9 billion. The company posted an ordinary loss of ¥2.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2017 and a net loss of ¥0.8 billion in the FY ended March 2021.
