Background
He joined the company in April 1986, became Executive Officer in April 2010, Managing Executive Officer in April 2014 and Executive Officer (Managing) in June 2015. Just before taking office he was Executive Officer (Managing) and President of the Precision Machinery Company. In March 2019, 33 years after joining, he became Director, President and Representative Executive Officer. In January 2023 he became CEO and COO.
Selection
In March 2019 he succeeded Toichi Maeda as Director, President and Representative Executive Officer. Whereas his predecessor had risen from President of the Fluid Machinery and Systems Company, Masao Asami came from President of the Precision Machinery Company, so the business that supplied the president changed. In the fiscal year ended December 2018, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥509.1 billion and operating income ¥32.5 billion, just after the fiscal year-end had been moved to December.
Initiatives
In 2023 the company moved to a system of five companies organized by the markets they serve. The mid-term management plan E-Plan2025 separated growth businesses from foundational businesses. Consolidated net sales grew 1.7 times from ¥509.1 billion in the fiscal year ended December 2018, before he took office, to ¥866.6 billion in FY ended December 2024, his final year, and operating income tripled from ¥32.5 billion to ¥98.0 billion. Employees also rose from 16,556 to 19,629 in FY ended December 2023.
