Selection

In June 2008 he succeeded Hiroshi Ishihara as Representative Director, President and COO. Ishihara had joined Furukawa Electric as an adviser in January 1999 from a Managing Director post at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone and had been President since June 2003. Ishihara simultaneously became Representative Director, Chairman and CEO, so the CEO title stayed with the chairman. COO was dropped from Yoshida's title in June 2009. In his first year, FY ended March 2009, net sales were ¥1,032.8 billion, with an ordinary loss of ¥14.8 billion and a net loss of ¥37.4 billion.

Initiatives

In March 2012 the company took up a third-party allotment of shares in Tokyo Special Electric Wire (now TOTOKU), making it a consolidated subsidiary. Results recovered from the year after he took office: FY ended March 2010 brought net sales of ¥809.6 billion and net income of ¥9.7 billion, and FY ended March 2011 operating profit of ¥35.1 billion. In his final year, FY ended March 2012, net sales were ¥918.8 billion and operating profit ¥15.9 billion, with a net loss of ¥11.1 billion. Consolidated employees grew from 37,669 in FY ended March 2008 to 45,425 in FY ended March 2012.
