Background
He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo in March 1935 and joined Dai-Ichi Bank that April. He moved to Yokohama Rubber in March 1963 and became a Director that August, the same year he joined. When he became Managing Director in August 1965, he was in charge of General Affairs and Accounting and also headed the Office Standardization Promotion Headquarters. He was born in Tokyo in 1910.
Selection
He moved from Director to Managing Director, Senior Managing Director and Executive Vice President at intervals of two to four years, and in December 1977 succeeded Koji Yoshitake as President, 14 years after moving over from banking. The officers section of the 1979 edition lists Shingo Hoshino, who moved from The Industrial Bank of Japan in December 1965, as Senior Managing Director, so several people from financial institutions were at the core of management.
Initiatives
In the officers section of the 1979 edition, during his tenure, the Managing Directors' responsibilities were divided among heads of the Development Division, the Tire Production Division, the Tire Sales Division, the Industrial Products Division and the Direct Demand Division, a structure with separate division heads for development, production and sales. The postwar generation who joined in 1946 and 1947 were rising to Managing Director, and a generational change among officers appears to have advanced in this period.
