He became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2012 and Representative Director and President the following June, in 2013. The company's shares were unlisted for a long time, and in the fiscal year ended March 2010 the major shareholders were Nissho Kosan with 16.95%, the Idemitsu Cultural and Welfare Foundation with 7.75%, the Idemitsu Kosan employee shareholding association with 5.01%, the Idemitsu Museum of Arts with 5.0% and Shosuke Idemitsu with 2.33%, with shareholders connected to the founding family at the top. Education: Keio University, Faculty of Law (1975)

Selection

In June 2013 he became Representative Director and President, succeeding Kazuhisa Nakano. He was promoted four years after becoming a Director and one year after becoming Executive Vice President. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2013, consolidated revenue was ¥4,374.6 billion and operating income ¥110.7 billion, profit down 20% from ¥138.1 billion the year before.

Initiatives

In his second year, the fiscal year ended March 2015, the company posted a consolidated operating loss of ¥104.8 billion and a net loss of ¥137.9 billion. Losses persisted in FY ended March 2016 with an operating loss of ¥19.6 billion. It recovered to operating income of ¥135.2 billion and net income of ¥88.1 billion in FY ended March 2017, and to operating income of ¥201.3 billion and net income of ¥162.3 billion in FY ended March 2018, his final year. During his tenure he pursued the business integration with Showa Shell Sekiyu and carried out a public offering of new shares. This appears to have been set against a conflict with the founding family, which opposed the integration. In April 2018 he moved to Representative Director and Chairman, and Shunichi Kito succeeded him as President.
