Background
He joined Idemitsu Kosan in April 1980, became an Executive Officer 31 years later in June 2011 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2013. He became Director and Executive Vice President in June 2017 and, ten months later in April 2018, Representative Director and President. He was a career employee who spent 38 years inside the company. In the fiscal year ended March 2015 the top major shareholders were Nissho Kosan with 16.95%, the Idemitsu Cultural and Welfare Foundation with 7.75% and the Idemitsu Museum of Arts with 5.0%, both public interest incorporated foundations, so shareholders connected to the founding family held nearly 30%.

In April 2018 he became Representative Director and President, succeeding Takashi Tsukioka, who moved to Representative Director and Chairman. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2018, consolidated revenue was ¥3,730.6 billion, operating income ¥201.3 billion and net income ¥162.3 billion, just after a two-year recovery from an operating loss of ¥19.6 billion in FY ended March 2016. He was promoted ten months after becoming Executive Vice President.
Initiatives
In April 2019 the company completed its business integration with Showa Shell Sekiyu. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, after the integration, it posted an operating loss of ¥3.9 billion and a net loss of ¥22.9 billion on consolidated revenue of ¥6,045.8 billion. In FY ended March 2022 operating income was ¥434.5 billion and net income ¥279.4 billion, and in FY ended March 2025, his final year, revenue was ¥9,190.2 billion, operating income ¥162.2 billion and net income ¥104.0 billion. From June 2022 he served as Representative Director, President and CEO, and in April 2025 he moved to Representative Director and Chairman.
