Background

Born in December 1936. In October 1980, used car buyers and dealers in Aichi Prefecture came together to found Aichi Jidosha Sogo Service (now USS) with capital of ¥20 million, and he became its Director and Executive Vice President. Even at the end of March 2006, just before stepping down as President, he was the largest shareholder with 3,318,000 shares, 10.21% of shares outstanding, and served about 24 years as President while keeping a founder's capital base.

Selection

At the founding in October 1980 his title was Director and Executive Vice President; he became President one year and nine months later, in July 1982. The following month, August 1982, the USS Nagoya auction site opened in Nawa-machi, Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture, and used car auto auction operations began. He appears to have spent the preparation period from the founding to the site's opening as Executive Vice President and moved to President as the business got under way.

Initiatives

In April 1996 the company rebuilt and relocated the USS Nagoya site to Shinpo-machi, Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture, setting up a 3,000-vehicle auction system with two simultaneous bidding lanes. After listing on the Second Section of the Nagoya Stock Exchange in September 1999, it made Saar Auto Auction Tohoku a wholly owned subsidiary through a share exchange in April 2000, beginning an expansion in which it bought regional operators and converted them to the USS model. In December 2000 it listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Revenue grew from ¥15.0 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1999 to ¥60.2 billion in FY ended March 2006, his final year.
