Background

He became a Director of USS in July 1982, Senior Managing Director in November 1989 and Director and Executive Vice President in June 1995. After 24 years as a Director, he became Representative Director and President in June 2006. Among major shareholders in the fiscal year ended March 2006 he ranked fifth with 2.78%, behind the top holder Futoshi Hattori at 10.21%, so while running the company he also held part of its capital.

Selection

In June 2006 he became President, succeeding Futoshi Hattori. In the fiscal year before he took office, ended March 2006, non-consolidated revenue was ¥60.2 billion and operating income ¥23.1 billion, an operating margin of 38%. Revenue was up 20% from ¥50.4 billion the year before, so the change was not prompted by stalled results. Hattori remained the largest shareholder with 10.21% and handed the presidency to a close associate who had been a Director since the early years.

Initiatives

Revenue, ¥60.2 billion non-consolidated in the year before he took office, reached ¥79.9 billion consolidated in the fiscal year ended March 2019, his final year, and net income rose from ¥13.2 billion to ¥25.5 billion; since the figures span non-consolidated and consolidated bases, they cannot be compared directly. He became Representative Director, Chairman and President in June 2012, and in February 2018 also became Representative Director and President of JAA and HAA Kobe. In June 2019 he handed the presidency to Dai Seta, while continuing to bear ultimate responsibility for management as Representative Director, Chairman and CEO.
