Background

He joined Kaneka in April 1977 and became General Manager of Corporate Planning in March 2009. He rose to Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2010, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in June 2014 and Director and Executive Vice President in June 2016, becoming Representative Director and Executive Vice President in April 2018. A career employee, he spent 43 years at the company and reached the presidency by way of the head office planning department.

Selection

In April 2020 he became Representative Director and President, succeeding Mamoru Kadokura. The promotion came after two years as Representative Director and Executive Vice President and ten years as a Director. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥601.5 billion and operating income ¥26.0 billion, down from ¥621.0 billion and ¥36.0 billion the year before. Right after a year in which operating income fell 30%, the change appears to have been an orderly handover to the Executive Vice President from the planning side.

Initiatives

In the fiscal year ended March 2021, his first year, consolidated net sales were ¥577.4 billion and operating income ¥27.5 billion, bottoming out with sales still declining. In FY ended March 2022 they recovered to ¥691.5 billion and operating income of ¥43.6 billion, then ¥755.8 billion and ¥35.1 billion in FY ended March 2023, and in FY ended March 2024, the year he stepped down, net sales of ¥762.3 billion and operating income of ¥32.6 billion, the highest sales of his four years.
