Background

He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University in March 1924 and joined Kanegafuchi Spinning the same month. He became a Director of Kanegafuchi Spinning in February 1944 and Executive Vice President in June 1947. In September 1949, when Kanegafuchi Spinning transferred all its businesses other than textiles and Kanegafuchi Chemical Industry was launched, he moved from Executive Vice President of the parent to President of the new company. A figure at the management core of a spinning company thus became the first President of a chemical company.

Education: Keio University, Faculty of Economics (1924)

Selection

He became the first President at the company's founding in September 1949. With no predecessor, the appointment had the Executive Vice President of the company transferring the businesses serve as President of the company receiving them. The executives from President down to Managing Director all shared the same background of joining Kanegafuchi Spinning and transferring in September 1949; the company was created by moving the management team wholesale. It listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and other exchanges the month after its founding.

Initiatives

Over his 20 years he built up the core businesses. The company began producing PVC resin in July 1950, entered food with shortening in February 1953 and began producing the modacrylic fiber Kanekalon in July 1957, followed by MBS resin in June 1964 and foamed resins in July 1965. In July 1967 it switched its vinyl chloride monomer process to the oxychlorination method. Non-consolidated net sales grew from ¥5.5 billion in the fiscal year ended March 1953 to ¥40.4 billion in FY ended March 1969.
