He joined Shin-Etsu Chemical in September 1963. He reached the board 29 years later, in June 1992, then became Managing Director in June 1996 and Senior Managing Director in June 1998. He spent 11 years as Senior Managing Director, became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2009, and President a year later. It was 47 years from joining to the presidency.
