Background
He joined Nomura Securities in April 1981 and worked as head of European administration at Nomura International PLC and in the settlement and IT strategy departments. He became an Executive Officer of Nomura Principal Finance in July 2004 and moved to Skylark as Senior Managing Director in January 2008. He then handled administration, human resources and finance, coming up through administration rather than store operations.
Selection
In March 2023 he succeeded Makoto Tani as President. It was a promotion from Director, Managing Executive Officer and Managing Director of Finance, 15 years after joining Skylark. In the FY ended December 2022, the year before he took office, the company posted a consolidated operating loss of ¥5.6 billion and a net loss of ¥6.4 billion, with pandemic losses continuing. The appointment appears to have put the executive in charge of finance at the head of the turnaround.

In the FY ended December 2023, his first year, consolidated net sales were ¥354.8 billion and operating income ¥11.7 billion, a return to profit from the previous year's operating loss of ¥5.6 billion. In the FY ended December 2025, sales were ¥457.8 billion, operating income ¥30.0 billion and net income ¥16.7 billion, the third straight year of higher sales and profits since he took office. In March 2025 he became Representative Director, President and COO, forming a two-person leadership with Chairman and CEO Makoto Tani.
