Background
A career employee who joined in 1982, he became Executive Officer and head of the Hokkaido headquarters of Sapporo Breweries in March 2009 and Director, Managing Executive Officer and head of sales in March 2010. In March 2013 he became Representative Director and President of Sapporo Breweries while also serving on the board of the holding company Sapporo Holdings. He reached the top of the holding company after coming up through sales at the operating company.

In March 2017 he succeeded Tsutomu Kamijo as Representative Director and President. He had served four years as president of Sapporo Breweries and had become Group Executive Officer and President in January 2017, two months before taking office. In the fiscal year ended December 2016, the year before he took office, consolidated net sales were ¥541.8 billion, operating income ¥20.2 billion and net income ¥9.5 billion. The change placed a former president of the operating company in the presidency of the holding company.
Initiatives
Of his eight years in office, the FY ended December 2020 saw consolidated net sales fall to ¥434.7 billion, with an operating loss of ¥15.9 billion and a net loss of ¥16.1 billion. Operating income returned to ¥22.0 billion in the FY ended December 2021. In the FY ended December 2024, his final year, net sales were ¥512.4 billion and operating income ¥5.6 billion, below the ¥20.2 billion of the year before he took office.
