Background
He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Tokyo Imperial University in March 1936 and joined Dai Nippon Brewery that April. At Nippon Breweries he served as general manager of personnel from March 1958, councillor from March 1962 and general manager of accounting from October 1964, rising to Director in February 1965. He became Managing Director in February 1967 and Senior Managing Director in February 1971, also serving as deputy head of sales. After working in head-office administration in personnel and accounting, he was moved to sales two years before becoming president.
Selection
In February 1973 he succeeded Kurauto Uchita as President, with Uchita moving to Chairman. Benshiro Nomura, who became Executive Vice President at the same time, had joined in April 1936 like Kadowaki, but Kadowaki became a director in February 1965 and Nomura in February 1967, giving the administrator a two-year lead. In the previous fiscal year, ended December 1972, non-consolidated net sales were ¥148.3 billion and net income ¥1.6 billion, with net income having fallen for three straight years from ¥2.27 billion in the FY ended December 1969.
Initiatives
In February 1973 he installed Koji Kawai as head of sales, and in December 1974 acquired all shares of Marukatsu Budoshu to expand into wine. In April 1977 the company launched the bottled draft beer "Sapporo Bin Nama" nationwide, pivoting on the single point of dropping heat pasteurization. First-year shipments reached 8 million cases, twice the plan. Non-consolidated net sales grew from ¥148.3 billion in the FY ended December 1972 to ¥208.4 billion in the FY ended December 1977, and ordinary income rose to ¥6.06 billion. He became Chairman in February 1978.
