Background

He joined A.T. Kearney in January 1999 and moved to MISUMI in February 2004. He became Executive Officer in January 2005, Director and Executive Officer in June of that year, and Director and Managing Executive Officer in October 2006, and from June 2007 also served as Representative Director and President of Suruga Seiki. A transfer from a consulting firm, he had no ties to the founding or to capital. The officer list for the FY ended March 2012 shows him holding 21 thousand shares, far fewer than the 515 thousand of Representative Director and Chairman Tadashi Saegusa on the same list.

Selection

In October 2008 he succeeded Tadashi Saegusa as Representative Director and President, four years and eight months after joining MISUMI. On the same officer list, Executive Vice President Masahiko Eguchi took 21 years from joining in 1982 to become a Director, and Managing Director Ryusei Ono 20 years from joining in 1987, an order of magnitude different from typical internal promotion. Saegusa stayed on as Representative Director, Chairman and CEO, and from June 2012 both the Chairman and the President carried the title Co-CEO.

Initiatives

In the FY ended March 2009, right after he took office, non-consolidated net sales were ¥110.0 billion and net income ¥4.7 billion; they fell to ¥89.2 billion and ¥3.9 billion in the FY ended March 2010 and recovered to ¥121.2 billion and ¥9.0 billion in the FY ended March 2011. After the switch to consolidated reporting, net sales were ¥130.2 billion and net income ¥9.4 billion in the FY ended March 2012, and ¥134.8 billion and ¥9.9 billion in the FY ended March 2013. The acquisition of US-based Dayton Progress and Anchor Lamina, announced in October 2012, brought in die component manufacturing. From July 2011 he also served as head of MISUMI's die components business.
