Background
Born on September 22, 1944, he joined MISUMI as a Director in June 2001, becoming Executive Vice President in March 2002 and Representative Director, President and CEO in June of that year, just one year from Director to President. He held 481 thousand shares, less than a tenth of the 5,776 thousand held by founder Hiroshi Taguchi in the FY ended March 2006. He appears to have been brought in for his management methods rather than his capital.
Selection
In June 2002 he became Representative Director, President and CEO as founder Hiroshi Taguchi stepped down as President and became a Director. Taguchi had joined in March 1963 and run the company for over 30 years since becoming President in December 1969. Net sales grew to ¥44.0 billion in the FY ended March 2000 and ¥56.0 billion in the FY ended March 2001, then stalled at ¥57.7 billion in the FY ended March 2003. Taguchi remained a Director after stepping down and was a shareholder holding 8.51% in the FY ended March 2006.
Initiatives
In April 2005 the company integrated with Suruga Seiki through a share exchange, changed its name to MISUMI Group Inc., and set up MISUMI Corporation to take over all its businesses. President Saegusa also served as Representative Director and President of MISUMI and Suruga Seiki. From 2005 to 2007 the company expanded production and logistics bases to Guangzhou, Thailand, South Korea and Poland, and in October 2007 opened the MISUMI Production Park in Kobe. Non-consolidated net sales grew from ¥57.7 billion in the FY ended March 2003 to ¥126.7 billion in the FY ended March 2008, and net income from ¥3.5 billion to ¥9.7 billion.
