Background
He joined Tokyo Gas in April 1979, becoming Executive Officer in April 2010 and Managing Executive Officer in April 2012. He became Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2015 and Representative Director and Executive Vice President in April 2016, becoming President two years later. He was a career employee who took 39 years from joining to reach the top. The top shareholders were life insurers and trust banks, led by Nippon Life Insurance at 6.4% and Dai-ichi Life Insurance at 4.92% (FY ended March 2015), and there was no controlling shareholder.

His title changed to Representative Corporate Executive Officer and President in June 2021, and to Representative Corporate Executive Officer, President and CEO in April 2022. Consolidated net sales fell to ¥1,765.1 billion and operating income to ¥77.7 billion in the FY ended March 2021, then recovered to ¥2,154.8 billion and ¥127.5 billion in the FY ended March 2022. In the FY ended March 2023, his final year, net sales were ¥3,289.6 billion, operating income ¥421.5 billion and net income ¥280.9 billion, net income tripling from ¥95.7 billion the year before.
