Background

He joined Tokyo Gas in April 1967, became General Manager of the Raw Materials Department in June 1996, and Director and General Manager of the Raw Materials Department in June 1998. He became Managing Director in June 2000, Director, Managing Executive Officer and head of the Corporate Planning Division in June 2002, and Representative Director, Executive Vice President and head of the Corporate Planning Division in June 2003, moving to head of the Corporate Communication Division in April 2004. As of the FY ended March 2006 he held 97 thousand shares.

Selection

In April 2006 he succeeded Norio Ichino as Representative Director, President and Executive Officer. Takeya Kobayashi, who joined in 1965, was also an Executive Vice President, but the choice fell on Mitsunori Torihara, who joined in 1967 and had headed the Corporate Planning Division and the Corporate Communication Division. In the FY ended March 2006, consolidated ordinary income was ¥98.7 billion and net income ¥62.1 billion, down from ¥132.9 billion and ¥84.0 billion the year before.

Initiatives

In February 2006 the standard calorific value of supplied gas was changed from 46.04655 MJ/m3 to 45 MJ/m3, and in July of that year the Nagano branch's business was transferred to Nagano Toshi Gas through an absorption-type company split. In January 2009 the group formulated its mid-term management plan for fiscal 2009 to 2013, and in May of that year transferred part of its LNG procurement business to Nijio. Consolidated net sales rose from ¥1,266.5 billion in the FY ended March 2006 to ¥1,415.7 billion in the FY ended March 2010.
