He became a director of Kadokawa Media Office in May 1986 and served as Representative Director of MediaWorks from October 1992. He went on to serve as Representative Director of a series of Kadokawa group operating companies, including Enterbrain, Media Leaves, Fujimi Shobo, Kadokawa Mobile (now BookWalker), ASCII and Kadokawa Production, and in April 2008 became Representative Director and President of Kadokawa Group Holdings (now KADOKAWA). He served as a Corporate Auditor of DWANGO from September 2000 and as a director from December 2009.

Selection

He became Representative Director and President of KADOKAWA DWANGO, newly created by the business integration with DWANGO in October 2014. At the same time Nobuo Kawakami, Representative Director and President of DWANGO since August 1997, became Representative Director and Chairman, and eight months later, in June 2015, the two swapped the roles of President and Chairman. According to the annual securities report, Sato held 187,000 shares and Kawakami 5,687,000, a 30-fold gap.

Initiatives

In 2013, the year before he became President, Kadokawa Group Holdings absorbed nine consolidated subsidiaries and changed its name to KADOKAWA. The nine merged companies accounted for 80% of consolidated revenue in the fiscal year ended March 2012, and Sato decided on this reorganization together with Tsuguhiko Kadokawa. In the FY ended March 2015, the first year after the integration, consolidated revenue was ¥100.5 billion, ordinary profit ¥2.4 billion and net income ¥14.0 billion; his tenure as President lasted eight months, from October 2014 to June 2015.
