Background
He joined Tobu Railway in April 1984. In July 2013 he went out to become President of Tobu Engineering, returned to the parent as a Director in June 2015, and became Managing Director in June 2017 and Managing Executive Officer in April 2018. From October 2019 he also served as Executive Vice President of Tobu Shoji, becoming its President in June 2020. After heading two subsidiaries, he became President of the parent 39 years after joining.
Selection
In June 2023 he became President, succeeding Yoshizumi Nezu, who had held the post for 24 years. In the fiscal year ended March 2023, the year before he took office, consolidated revenue had recovered from a pandemic low of ¥506.0 billion to ¥614.7 billion, with operating income of ¥56.7 billion and net income of ¥29.1 billion, still mid-recovery. He was promoted from Managing Executive Officer of the parent without passing through senior managing director or executive vice president.
Initiatives
After taking office he drew up the Tobu Group Mid-Term Management Plan 2024-2027, making improved capital efficiency and disciplined investment allocation management goals. Consolidated revenue rose from ¥614.7 billion in the year before he took office to ¥655.4 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026, and net income from ¥29.1 billion to ¥55.6 billion. Operating income has been in the ¥70 billion range for three straight years since the fiscal year ended March 2024, above the pre-pandemic ¥62.7 billion of the fiscal year ended March 2020.
