Background
He joined Dai-ichi Life Insurance in April 1986. In April 2012 he took charge of asset management planning as Executive Officer and General Manager of the Investment Planning Department, then became Managing Executive Officer in April 2015 and Director and Managing Executive Officer in June 2016. Like his predecessor Koichiro Watanabe and Katsutoshi Saito before him, he was a career employee who joined in the mutual company era.
Selection
In April 2017 he moved from Director and Managing Executive Officer to President, succeeding Koichiro Watanabe, who became Representative Director and Chairman that month. It came just after the company had renamed itself Dai-ichi Life Holdings the previous October and shifted to a holding company structure, making him the first President to oversee a group spanning domestic life insurance, overseas insurance and asset management. In the fiscal year ended March 2017, the year before he took office, ordinary income was ¥6,456.7 billion and net income ¥231.2 billion.
Initiatives
The overseas network kept growing after the move to a holding company, with offices opened in Cambodia in March 2018, Myanmar in May 2019 and a reinsurance base in Bermuda in December 2020. In November 2022 the group made New Zealand's Partners Group Holdings a subsidiary, and in January 2023 it entered pet insurance by acquiring ipet Insurance through a tender offer. From April 2022 he ran the company with the title of Representative Director, President and CEO.
