Background

After heading the Secretariat of Mizuho Financial Group, he became Managing Executive Officer in charge of branches at Mizuho Bank in April 2012. He became Senior Executive Officer of Mizuho Financial Group in April 2015, Director, Senior Executive Officer and Head of the Compliance Group in June that year, and Director and Deputy President in charge of business promotion in April 2017. He moved to Mizuho Leasing in April 2019 as Executive Vice President responsible for CSR, and became Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June that year.

His predecessor was Hiroshi Motoyama, and Tsuhara became Representative Director, President and CEO in June 2020 after a year as Executive Vice President. He was the second consecutive President from Mizuho after Motoyama, having served as Director and Deputy President of Mizuho Bank. In the fiscal year ended March 2020, the year before he took office, consolidated sales were ¥539.2 billion and net income ¥17.5 billion, with sales up 40% from ¥384.9 billion and ¥16.6 billion the year before. The year before his appointment, the company had become an equity-method affiliate through a capital and business alliance with Mizuho Bank and changed its name to Mizuho Leasing.

Initiatives

Over his three years, consolidated sales were ¥497.9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2021, ¥554.8 billion in the FY ended March 2022 and ¥529.7 billion in the FY ended March 2023. Net income moved from ¥21.8 billion to ¥14.9 billion and ¥28.4 billion. Operating profit fell to ¥17.9 billion in the FY ended March 2022, then recovered in his final year, the FY ended March 2023, to operating profit of ¥31.8 billion and ordinary profit of ¥40.1 billion. In April 2023 he handed the presidency to Akira Nakamura and became Chairman and Chair of the Board.
