Background
He joined the bank in April 1989, a career employee who spent 35 years inside it. He became General Manager of Corporate Planning in November 2012, Executive Officer in July 2016 and Managing Executive Officer in July 2019. He rose to Representative Director and Executive Vice President in June 2021, and just before becoming President also headed the Corporate Business Promotion Division. Having passed through both corporate planning and corporate banking, he became President in his 35th year at the bank.
Selection
In April 2024 he succeeded Kei Tanikawa as President. In the fiscal year ended March 2024, the year before he took office, the bank posted an ordinary loss of ¥54.8 billion and a net loss of ¥49.9 billion on ordinary income of ¥246.2 billion. In the prior FY ended March 2023, ordinary income was ¥183.2 billion and net income ¥8.7 billion, so revenue kept rising while the bottom line swung to a loss within a year. The Executive Vice President in charge of corporate banking took over management right after the loss was booked.
Initiatives
In his first year the bank entered into a capital and business alliance with Daiwa Securities Group and carried out a third-party allotment of new shares to it. At the end of the fiscal year ended March 2026, Daiwa Securities Group held 23.88%, making it the largest shareholder. Results returned to ordinary profit of ¥17.6 billion and net income of ¥20.5 billion in the FY ended March 2025, and recovered further to ordinary profit of ¥27.2 billion and net income of ¥25.7 billion in the FY ended March 2026.
