Background
He graduated from Kyoto Imperial University's Faculty of Law in March 1937, joined the Bank of Chosen in April that year and worked at its Tokyo, Shanghai and New York branches. He left the bank in August 1945, and from June 1956 served as assistant special liquidator of the Bank of Chosen, then a closed institution. When the Nippon Fudosan Bank was founded in April 1957 he joined as General Manager of General Affairs with officer status. He became a Director in May 1958, General Manager of Personnel and head of the Inspection Office in May 1960, and Managing Director in May 1962. He moved from liquidation work to the administrative side of the new bank.
Selection
He became Deputy President in October 1965 and succeeded Minori Yuto as President in October 1969. Among the 14 directors in the 1966 directory who had moved from the Bank of Chosen at the founding, Teruhiko Yamazaki became a Director in May 1960, Junkichi Hashimoto in November 1961 and Hozaburo Jimbo in May 1962; Shoda alone became a Director the year after joining. Entrusted with general affairs, personnel and inspection from the founding, he rose to President from a position overseeing internal affairs.
Initiatives
His tenure as President was the five years from October 1969 to October 1974. During it, in February 1970, the bank listed its shares on the Osaka Securities Exchange. In October 1974 he stepped back to Chairman, and the bank brought in Jun Watanabe from outside as President, a man who had come from the Industrial Bank of Japan via Chuo Trust and Banking. After moving to Chairman he remained a Representative Director and stayed at the top of the officers' roster as Chairman through the 1981 directory. With this change, the line of Presidents drawn from those who joined at the founding was broken for a time.
